1) Christkindlmarkt (Dec 5-Dec 7, 11am-10pm and 8pm on Sunday)
This is a popular traditional German-style Christmas market that is returning for its 8th year. The market takes place in the garden of an old French mansion and is turned into a beautiful Christmas market for just one weekend the whole year. It is a great place to go if you are seeking to enjoy traditional hot spiced Glühwein, sizzling Bavarian sausages, pastries and other seasonal specialties which are sold at various food and drink stalls throughout the market. Perfect to enjoy while you are doing your shopping! The vendors also offer many traditional Christmas wreaths, cards and special artisanal items as well as homemade Christmas gifts and small accessories and ornaments from decorated booths. 30RMB entry.

2) Christmas Bazaar (Only December 6, 10am-4pm)
Nepali Kitchen hosts a Christmas Bazaar featuring handicrafts by local designers like Cathleen Gay, Tsaiyun Studio, L’atelier Mandarine and more. You will be able to view a wide selection of jewelry, festive decorations, cashmere products, childrens clothes, accessories, small furniture, stationary and artistic montage photographs, etc.

3) Good Gift Fair (Only December 6, 10am-4pm)
The annual non-profit organization’s winter event is held in the heart of Shanghai’s historic Hunan neighborhood, organized by a group of four local campaigners. This is the perfect opportunity to buy ‘alternative gifts’ from Shanghai-based charities and NGOs. Some of the attending include Morning Tears, which helps support children whose parents are in prison, Roots and Shoots, which encourages reforestation of Inner Mongolia by selling a tree to be planted for 25RMB, and Stepping Stones, which helps migrant students afford education. Free entry.

4) Emerald Christmas Bazzar & Celebrations (Only December 7, 10am-4pm)
This year the Emerald will host their Christmas market with a variety of vendors, Christmas caroling, seasonal refreshments and drinks, and kids games with a magic clown. Enjoy the spirit of Christmas with the singing and story telling. There will be over 30 vendors selling items such as holiday crafts, candles, calendars, jewelry, books, toys, wreaths, garlands, poinsettias, clothes, bags, and much more. There will also be Christmas coffee, warm cocoa, hot pies and cookies to warm you up! In addition, there will be a special appearance by Santa himself.

5) Vintage Winter Fest (Dec 12-Dec 14, Midday-8pm & 10pm on Sat)
This market is a three day party of shopping till you drop. The four floors are full of vintage high end sellers offering books, furniture, organic grocery, gourmet foods and homemade Christmas gifts. The experience promises art exhibits, performances, fashion and design displays and a children’s play area. There will also be some catwalk shows, live illustrations, exhibitions and a festive yet slightly strange dress code that is described as ‘punk tartan’ to ‘ice queen’ to ‘forest gnomes, elves and fairies’. This event is followed by an after party on the Saturday night until 2am. 50RMB/day, 100RMB/three days.

6) Christmas Market (Dec 12-Dec 21, Fri 5pm-9pm, Sat-Sun 12pm-7pm)
Amelia’s and Andaz team up for a Christmas market with food, jewelry, fashion and vendors selling their unique creations. Hot-spiced wine and pumpkin soup will also be available to warm you up! Free Entry.

7) Crown Relocations Christmas Revival Event (Only December 13, 1pm-6pm)
This charity event is organized by the private cellar Crown Relocations and will donate a portion of overall sales to the Shanghai Young Bakers organization, which is a charity program that provides French bakery training to disadvantaged Chinese youth. Along with the free wine tasting and entertainment, vendors will be selling products such as handmade furniture and accessories from Jonas Design; vintage shoes and accessories from ReDesigns; jewelry from Miss Geometry; and scarves and shawls from Elgere. They will also be selling local brands of coffee, cakes and snacks. Free entry.

8) Jiashan Christmas Market (Only December 20, 11am-6pm)
Up to 40 different vendors and stalls will attend this Shanghai favorite for its second Christmas market makeover. Grab a glass of mulled wine and mince pie from The British Kitchen and browse a wide range of artisan foods, crafts, eco-friendly products and unique Christmas gifts.

9) Shanghai German Christmas Market (Nov 29-Dec 24, open Mon-Fri 1pm-9pm, Sat-Sun 11am-10pm)
Arguably the largest and most famous Christmas market in Shanghai, the German Christmas Market has artists and vendors that will be offering an array of homemade Christmas gifts such as toys, jewelry and decorations for this years’ Christmas celebrations. Organizers are also promising vendors and artists from across Europe plus a range of European beers, cheese, chocolates and treats. The market includes a 20m tall Christmas tree, over 100 festive huts and tents, live performances by choirs, pop singers, and DJs, and much more. There will also be a special area for children with bouncy castles, a merry-go-round and fun children activities such as cookie decorating or face painting. A must visit for anyone in Shanghai this December! 60RMB entry.

10) Santaville (Nov 28-Dec 25, Mon-Thu 11am-10pm, Fri-Sun 10am-10pm, Christmas Eve & Day 10am-10pm)
Kerry Parkside presents SantaVille, a festive Christmas market that features vendors with beautiful Christmas gifts and snacks to enjoy and drink. Additionally, there will be live performances and carolers as well as a merry-go-round and activities for children. Each week, different workshops are prepared for youngsters and are expected to cost 25-30RMB. These workshops vary from handicrafts to basic culinary activities. Free entry.

11) Dreams Christmas Bazaar (Every weekend in December, 12pm-8pm)
Although this market is not just strictly Christmas themed, the Dreams Flea Market will adopt a festive air and run every weekend in the month, giving everyone a chance to pick up gifts or Christmas treats. The popular flea market is a staple of the Shanghai shopping scene, with enthusiastic stallholders selling a range of jewelry, gifts, clothes, vintage products and other miscellaneous goods. Free entry.

12) Christmas Wonderland (Dec 6-Jan 4, Mon-Thu 11am-10pm, Fri-Sun 10am-10pm)
The Kerry Center Christmas Market, Christmas Wonderland, includes activities for children such as a merry-go-round, snow slides and Santa’s house. Food and drinks are also available, such as Glühwein, hot chocolate, and more. On Dec 9th a Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place in the Plaza. Free entry.
